This has been an exciting week in Kindergarten! We had a lot of visitors on Tuesday as a part of our Health & Safety week at The Atlanta Academy. Georgia State's mascot, Pounce, came to visit & the kids were thrilled! High fives all around! The kids were very thankful for their generous donation of sunglasses and water bottles.
We even had a visit from a local police officer and several local firefighters! We learned all about who to call in an emergency & what type of emergency requires a call to 911. The kids got to take a tour of the inside of the police car AND a fire truck!

Well, the fun didn't stop there! We also started a brand new unit in Writer's Workshop this week. We are now learning all about what it means to live our lives as scientific writers. Our new Observing & Looking Closely unit is one of our personal favorites. We got to explore nature first hand on Tuesday with a nature walk throughout the outside of the school. We learned that scientists don't use ordinary eyes when observing objects. They REALLY study each little detail with close observation. A normal person would just glance at an object but scientists really study all parts of an object. We found a Princess Tree leaf on our walk & we loved observing all of the details using our 5 senses. The kids decided that the leaf was as soft as a fluffy dog's fur. How cute is that?! I can't wait to continue to read their scientific stories!
