We have had another busy week in Kindergarten! Today the kiddos got to investigate a pumpkin in Science class. They even got to vote on the type of face to carve! The scary pumpkin was the winner! Earlier this week we had the opportunity to write to a soldier in the military. The class was excited to write to Mr. Leo and wish him a Happy Halloween! They even added labels, finger spaces, and sight words into their letters!
Kindergarten is full of fun moments and memories. It's a time to learn & explore but it's especially a time to develop friendships & bonds. That's exactly what this class has been doing lately!
This has been an exciting week in Kindergarten! We had a lot of visitors on Tuesday as a part of our Health & Safety week at The Atlanta Academy. Georgia State's mascot, Pounce, came to visit & the kids were thrilled! High fives all around! The kids were very thankful for their generous donation of sunglasses and water bottles. We even had a visit from a local police officer and several local firefighters! We learned all about who to call in an emergency & what type of emergency requires a call to 911. The kids got to take a tour of the inside of the police car AND a fire truck! Well, the fun didn't stop there! We also started a brand new unit in Writer's Workshop this week. We are now learning all about what it means to live our lives as scientific writers. Our new Observing & Looking Closely unit is one of our personal favorites. We got to explore nature first hand on Tuesday with a nature walk throughout the outside of the school. We learned that scientists don't use ordinary eyes when observing objects. They REALLY study each little detail with close observation. A normal person would just glance at an object but scientists really study all parts of an object. We found a Princess Tree leaf on our walk & we loved observing all of the details using our 5 senses. The kids decided that the leaf was as soft as a fluffy dog's fur. How cute is that?! I can't wait to continue to read their scientific stories!
Who knew graphing could be so fun (& tasty)?! We have been learning all about graphing in our current math unit. We've graphed everything from our favorite ice cream flavor to the outer space topic we wanted to learn the most about. The Earth was the winner! Well, today we got to graph AND eat! The kiddos learned all about the math terms least and greatest. We even figured out how many more it would take to be equal to our friend's colors!
